Collaborative Primacy™ Based Consulting Approach Builds Innovative And World Class Operating Model For Strategic Division In Major Life Sciences Company
Introduction
Following a major corporate organizational re-structuring during 2007-2008, a life sciences company division executive requested strategy input and organizational development consulting to assist in building a tailored structure and operating model with effective international corporate interfaces.
Approach
In this case, CPLS Consulting was specifically brought in for their combined life sciences leadership and operational expertise. A collaborative effort in the form of multi-national and local interaction with staff, combined with other operational information and documentation resulted in recommendations to corporate executive leadership to modify their original plan; revising and changing a significant investment in the existing organization with multi-national capacity expansion, into a plan to focus the operations, improve quality and production and to shut down unproductive and under-performing parts of the organization.
Results
Division head received executive approval for the new plan, including revised (and increased) investment strategy, which will result in an annual seven digit year over year saving through combining operations and re-utilization of formerly used space. A re-definition of the division's mission as a result of the revised corporate mission resulted in the development of structured interfaces with in-line value creation. The company prevented potential global regulatory challenges by skillfully shutting down part of the organization (2009). The organization was elevated to an even higher level of quality and performance by successfully addressing leadership, human resources, operational and communication challenges throughout the division. A revision of the organizational structure was supported by the development of shared accountability, with a clear personal accountability and a revision of all major job descriptions. All resulted in increased employee engagement and clarity of tasks, providing greater efficiency and contribution to the corporate mission and goals.
